Happy New Year! And speaking of new, we now have a spanking new website & news update, which I’m sure your all super happy about. For those of you who are not in a camera club as such, these emails will do pretty much what it says on the tin. It will give you an insight as to what happened at the last meetup and tell you what’s on at the next meetup. When there’s a competition we’ll give you the competition runners up and winner’s names and scores. If we have photography news regarding members, we can share that good news too. If we have news from L&CPU, PAGB or local clubs, we will share that info with you all too.
Some more, new, for our society, is our recent name change from ‘Middleton Photography Workshop Group‘ to ‘Middleton Photographic Society‘ Which I’m sure you’ll agree it’s less of a mouthful lol
And also a new meetup day, we now meet on a Tuesday instead of a Monday and we have an extra day every month, instead of once a month we will now be meeting every second and fourth Tuesday of each month, except for December and January, where there are no meetup’s but we do have a Christmas party and shoot and our networking event in January.
We hope you find the updates useful, if nothing else.
Last Week’s Event…
On Sunday 20th January we co-hosted our Annual Networking Event with Key Moments Photography Workshop Group. It was a chance for new people to come and ask questions about what we do and take part in our studio shoot with some of the regular members. There were about half a dozen new faces and a dozen or so regular members, that’s more than double from last year which is a great sign that were growing.
From all the enquiries on the night we now have two new members Paul & Saiful, I’m sure you’ll all make then feel welcome at our first meetup on Tuesday 12th February.
The studio shoot was busy with three models on the night, Ruby, Zara and Josh. I would like to thank Irene and Janette for overseeing the shoot so that everything ran smoothly, and to all the members who have kindly edited and shared some images for the models, they have all been passed on. There’s been some great feedback already about the networking night so hopefully it will continue to be a popular event.
All Things Comps & Salons…
Next month (Tue 12th Feb) we have Lee Sutton LRPS, EFIAP, CPAGB, BPE4*, ADPS, PPSA, GPU Cr2, GPU Hermes (who has one or two letters after his name) From Preston & Chorley PS, To give us his insight into the world of photography competitions. Lee has been entering Salons like PSA and FIAP for a number of years and has developed a spreadsheet to help with maintaining his entries. I’m sure his knowledge will prove to be very valuable.
Get Ready for Photographer Of The Year!
Round one of our Annual four-part POTY competition will be taking place in February so please start preparing your images for submission. The deadline for entries is Tuesday 12th February, you may have seen this posted in the facebook group or our new Instagram account.
Now’s your chance to sort through your photographs and select your best three images.
For those of you who are unfamiliar with photography competitions please ask and we can help you get ready. The images will need sizing to 1600x1200px with the background blacked out and your MPS number along with a title in the file name, its an open comp which means any type of image is welcome from wildlife, portrait, street, still life any genre. If this sounds confusing please do ask. The competition rules will be ready by the end of the month.
With lots to look forward to and prepare for, I’ll leave you to enjoy the rest of your day. I will look forward to seeing you all next month.
With warmest regards
